(Undated) -- Shut out federal employees heading to the movies this weekend are in for a treat courtesy of AMC Theaters. In response to the government shutdown, the theater chain announced this week that it's offering a free small popcorn to employees who present a valid government or military I.D.

In a graphic presenting the offer, AMC suggests government workers "make the best of the mess in DC," adding that the offer will stand "until common sense returns or we run out of popcorn, whichever happens first."

A follow up statement said, "While we can't do anything to resolve gridlock in Washington, D.C., we can provide a few hours of entertainment and free popcorn while they wait to get back to work."
