PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona's unemployment rate rose to 6.9 percent in June, up from 6.8 percent the month before.
State economists said Thursday that by comparison, Arizona's jobless rate was 8.1 percent a year ago.
The national unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of a percentage point to 6.1 percent in June.
According to state economists, five of the 11 major sectors added jobs and six reported losses over the month.
Arizona lost 39,500 non-farm jobs in June. Losses were primarily in government, which shed 36,000 jobs.
Professional and business services added 3,900 jobs, financial activities gained 2,200 jobs and manufacturing added 900 jobs.
